Well Said: Lesley Blanch

"The placing of a desk, or a bed, or the choice of a chintz may prove more revealing [of a person] than a documented study."

So observed British writer Lesley Blanch (1904-2007) in Pavilions of the Heart: The Four Walls of Love (Putnam, 1974).

  1. I have always thought one's home speaks volumes about who lives there. As you noted by Coco, luxury cannot be measured by dollars....and so it is with the decoration of one's home. What matters to a person inevitably ends up in their abode.

  6. I agree up to a point that it was a clever remark. But there was a bit of the old fraud in Lesley Blanch, no?

  7. Ah, but Rose! I think this comment of hers is truly authentic, studying the intimacy of a room to illuminate its inhabitant's character, spirit, and mind ...
