Details Count: Passementerie

The living room of Katherine and Julien St. Charles Chaqueneau (né Shakno), 933 Park Avenue, New York City, New York, as photographed in 1934. Image by Samuel Gottscho from the Museum of the City of New York.

Sometimes passementerie can go too far.

I don't know whether to sit in these armchairs or wear one as a peignoir.

Where doilies go to die?

There is something about that image that make the room appear to be miniature.

Dear Aesthete,
I agree. These armchairs should pass away. Do you have a date for this photograph? While the general effect of the room seems strange and out of proportion, the one element I covet is the bell-pull. I wonder if it functioned?
Thank you for your splendid wit.

I think the second ideas works best.

Oh yes.

too much passementerie!!!
......and how poignant to hear the world "peignoir"!

My mother used it often. "dressing-gown" doesn't really do it. There is not a word in english......

"Peignoir" is a lovely memory for me! Thanks!

Be sure to post a photo if you do the latter...

Agreed. Also, I am never really comfortable with a mirror over a sofa. But perhaps that is the subject for another discussion.

Agreed on the chairs, but that couch (and mirror and coffee table) are divine.
